Universe
In the context of LightDesigner, it refers to a DMX universe or a streaming ACN (sACN) universe, not the "life, the universe and everything" kind.
- DMX512 (commonly referred to as simply DMX) is made up of a digital serial string of 512 eight-bit values (0 to 255) that typically repeat around 44 times a second (44Hz) over a single DMX cable. Each cable contains a "universe" of DMX and a typical control console may output many universes of 512 channels.
- Streaming ACN is an Ethernet based grouping of levels (512 values at a time) that supports up to 65279 universes of DMX512 over a single Ethernet cable.
