Duplicate Objects

  1. Duplicate an existing channel in the Design view in one of two ways; either method displays the Duplicate dialog:
  1. Set the properties for the object duplication.
    1. Select "Snap duplicated channels to grid" if you prefer to display your channels in alignment with each other.
    2. Set the duplication layout of the new channels; whether the channels will display in the Plan workspace in a "Rectangle" shape or a "Circle" shape.
      • If "Rectangle" is selected, set how many channels will be duplicated width and height (columns and rows basically) and set the spacing parameters. *If "Snap duplicated channels to grid" is selected, the spacing will increment / decrement by the grid spacing.
      • If "Circle" is selected, set how many channels will be duplicated in total and set the radius of the circle in pixels. Also determine if the channels will post in a clockwise or counter-clockwise orientation. For instance if five channels are duplicated from channel 1 in a clockwise rotation, channels 2 through 5 would post to the right of channel one. Change the arc of the circle to be less than a full circle and determine the angle at which the circle will start. The graphic next to the settings will provide a graphic representation of the shape settings.
    3. The settings in the lower section of the "Duplicate" dialog are set to defaults; change as required each time channel duplication is required.
      • LightDesigner, by default will not create any duplicate channels that will fall outside of the selected space. Allow LightDesigner to change the layout of the duplicate channels by selecting "Break layout to create channels that would fall outside of the space" setting.

Tip: If an error dialog displays indicating that some channels were not created, it is best to undo the action by pressing the undo button in the toolbar or selecting "Undo" from the Edit menu and reconfiguring the space layout to accommodate the new requirement.

      • You can override the preference default regarding duplicate channel inclusion into existing groups and presets by deselecting the "Match Original Preset Values, Group Membership, and User Data checkboxes.
      • By default, a channel duplication will increment the name suffix of the selected channel type (example Zone 1 will duplicate to Zone 2, etc.). Select the "Take the same name as the original" setting to maintain the exact duplication of the original channel name; meaning all duplicated channels of Zone 1 will also be named "Zone 1". The duplicate channels will have different channel numbers, as indicated in the Browser and Property Editor, but will share the same name property.
