GDS BluesSystem by ETC shine bright deep in the heart of Texas

The venue

Designed by architecture and engineering firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, along with architecture and design firm Corgan Associates, the Dallas City Performance Hall is a 750-seat multipurpose proscenium theatre in the heart of the Dallas Arts District. The venue hosts a broad range of performances and events that represent the artistic disciplines and diverse cultural heritages that exist within the Dallas community, and has been hailed as a lyrical and elegant addition to the District.

The project

In February, 2013, Texas Scenic Company (TSC) asked GDS to provide a solution for the Dallas City Performance Hall stage galleries, catwalks and lighting booth. The lighting solution needed to be a zoned, DMX-controlled system that provided technicians access to technical areas under dark performance conditions -- all without drawing the audience's attention away from the stage.

The solution

Working in conjunction with Schuler Shook Theatre Planners, TSC installed 64 award-winning GDS BluesSystem LED luminaires. Kimberly Corbett, ASTC , a theater consultant with Schuler Shook said that the BluesSystem packed a lot of punch and were even brighter than anticipated. In order to avoid light spillage into visible stage areas, all 64 BluesSystem luminaires were equipped with cowl and eyelid accessories allowing custom beam-shaping for optimum light levels in working areas. Its low power consumption, compact size, DMX control, zoning capabilities, and ability to mount directly to electrical conduit made the BluesSystem the perfect fit for the Dallas City Performance Hall.
