ETC's CUE (Create. Understand. Experience.) professional-development conference is fast approaching. Space for the event - to be held June 26th to 28th in Madison, Wisconsin - is running out, and registration is scheduled to close on Wednesday, June 17th . The CUE conference will cover topics important to the industry, with a large variety of classes that help attendees improve their skills - no matter what their experience level is. Some of the sessions include color theory and how to teach it to students, designing power systems for modern light rigs, pixel mapping and virtual media-server control, rigging technology for theaters, and Open Sound Control. Attendees will also have the chance to experiment with an array of gear in the ETC Product Showcase, which will be staffed by product experts who can answer questions and demo the equipment.

A team of special guests will also be on hand during CUE to deliver keynote addresses, teach master classes, and interact with conference goers. Award-winning lighting designer Josh Allen, from Theatre Consultants Collaborative, will give a presentation to kick off the second day of CUE. In the address, 'Power Struggle,' Allen will use on-the-street interview footage, facts and more to explain how power, lighting and theater technologies have evolved over time, thanks to the out-of-the-box ideas of innovators. He'll also lead a master class, 'Theater Renewal for the 21st Century,' where he'll outline the process of getting a theater designed and built.

Al Crawford, of Arc3design and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Company, will be the keynote speaker at the CUE banquet, Saturday evening, June 27th . In his talk - titled '56 Years, 82 Countries, 6 Continents, 350 Ballets: The Life of an American Repertory Lighting Plot' - he'll pull back the curtain on the legendary Alvin Ailey dance troupe and share stories from the nearly two decades he's served as its lighting director. Crawford will also conduct a master class, 'The Art of Light: Breaking the Barriers of Lighting Design,' in which he'll talk about incorporating multiple light sources into designs for nontraditional performances, unique venues, visual art, mixed-media projects, and cross-genre installations.

Emmy Award-winning lighting designer Patrick Boozer will also teach a master class at CUE. In 'Live Music Programming for Eos® ,' he'll give attendees tips and tricks for lighting live-music productions. Nick Simmons, a lighting designer and associate who has worked everywhere from the West End to Broadway, will team up with ETC field project coordinator Nick Gonsman for the 'Fundamentals of a Multi-Console System' master class, to explain how to set up a system and avoid problems when multiple programmers work on a single system.
