Things To Be Aware Of...
- Address Service (DHCP server): The user is responsible for setting the starting pool IP address (First Address) of their DHCP (Address) server. If the primary network interface does not match the starting pool IP address, the DHCP server may serve up addresses that cannot be reached.
- The Network Interface Card (NIC) using the Update service (TFTP server) must have a Default Gateway IP defined in Windows Network Connections.
- As GCE opens, “No Net3 devices found…” message displays in the "Online Devices" table. This message will display until the Discovery Service (SLP) reports that devices are found on the network. Simply put, GCE displays this message when no devices are in the "Online Devices" table.
There are times when the Discovery Service (SLP) is slow to report discovered devices to GCE. This message will remain displayed until the first device is discovered. This slow response can be aggravated when Discovery Service (SLP) is started and stopped by GCE. To better understand the sequence of GCE initialization, the message is shown between steps 4 and 6 below. This is BEFORE the Discovery Service (SLP) reports that there are any discovered devices.
- GCE starts
- GCE starts the Discovery Service (SLP)
- GCE initializes the ACN library Service (discovery and so on)
- GCE displays the “No Net3 devices found…” message
- Discovery Service (SLP) reports discovered devices
- GCE removes the message and displays the devices reported by the Discovery Service (SLP)
- If a network interface card change happens outside of GCE, GCE will have to be restarted. For example, if a network cable is plugged in while GCE is running, GCE will display any discovered devices found on the newly plugged in network but will be unable to connect to them until the application is restarted.
- Device Selection:
- Select: click on any cell in the row or click on the row header.
- Deselect: click in table white space (outside of any cell) or Ctrl-click the selected cell or row header.
- The property values seen in GCE are a snapshot of the state of the gateway at the time of (re)connection. The gateways do not update GCE unless GCE asks for the properties. This means that if gateway properties are changed by another computer or console, your local GCE will not be updated to display the latest state of the properties. The user must use "Refresh" to get up-to-date properties of a device.
- Copying of IP address and mode values are not allowed if the Online entry is dynamic. You must change this via the Online Devices table. If you have turned off the "Preferences" dialog by deselecting the checkbox for “When updating devices, do not show this dialog again", you will not be notified that the drop of a dragged device could not make any IP address or mode changes.
- Default password to edit IP addresses: net3
- Menu selection of Online> "Apply Configuration to Network" or if you drag and drop from the "Device Configurations" table to "Online Devices" table will perform a blanket update of all properties based upon the current preferences. A right-click "Apply" will only update properties that are different based upon the current preferences.
- I/O Gateway
- Serial Address is not currently used by any known device.
- You cannot export data in CSV format from the "All Devices" tab, and the "Export CSV..." option from the (File) menu is disabled when the "All Devices" tab is in focus. This option is only enabled for the four device specific tabs (DMX Gateways, Show Control Gateways, I/O Gateways, and Radio Focus Remotes).
- Dimmer Doubling is supported in GCE version 3.0 software. GCE allows use of "DD" as the notation for dimmer doubling when addressing the port universe address. Dimmer Doubling is supported fully for any port mode on the Two and Four-Port DMX gateway but allows entry only for the One-Port when the port mode is not an input. Acceptable notation for all universe editors include:
- 1 DD 2
- 1/40 DD 2
- 1 DD 2/80
- 1/40 DD 2/80
- 7 DD
One-Port DMX Gateway
A Net3 One-Port DMX Gateway, with version 4.3 or newer software, now supports ACN configuration from GCE. Please note these specific changes to GCE's interface with the One-Port.
- Advanced Input Patch is not supported in the One-Port gateway.
- Dimmer Doubling is supported only when the port mode is not input.
- The One-Port gateway does not have a physical LCD display or buttons for menu selection; therefore.all user interface settings, such as Backlight and Log Settings selections have been removed from the GCE dialogs when a One-Port is in the selection. With a One-Port selected, new indication settings are provided to interface with the LEDs on the unit from GCE.
- RDM is not supported in the One-Port gateway version 4.3 software.
